Running in June, July, and August is the key to building a great team for next year!!! The main goal of summer training is to build an aerobic base. In order to do this you must run lots of miles. Beginning runners should build up to at least 15-20 miles per week and some of our veteran runners should try to reach as high as 40-50 miles a week!! Our first week of practice beginning on Monday, August 13 is not the time to start running. It will take your body many weeks to adapt to the training we will be doing and you need to increase your mileage gradually. You will be significantly behind your teammates and playing catch-up all season and increasing your risk of injury in the Fall if you do not train consistently over the summer.
For clarification on some of the terms and principles used to create the workout plan, Coach Johnston has put together the following:
In addition, Coach Johnston requests that everyone keep a training log for the summer. They will be collected the first week of practice. Click here for a PDF version of a training log to print.
